CHOOSING THE RIGHT MOP FOR THE JOB
FIBER CONTENT
COTTON – Effective and economical for general floor cleaning in commercial and industrial applications offering excellent absorption properties. High absorbency allows fast floor drying. Susceptible to mildew that can rot mop yarn and reduce product life. Not recommended for laundering due to excessive shrinkage. Cotton mops require a ''break-in'' period (see below) to remove natural oils. Failure to break in a new cotton mop greatly diminishes its absorbency during initial use.
How to break in a new cotton mop:- Fill a mop bucket with water (120°F - 140°F).
- Submerge mop in solution and agitate for two to three seconds.
- Thoroughly wring out and rinse.
RAYON – Absorbs quickly, mildew resistant and dries fast. Used for finish mops due to ability to "retain and release" wax. Picks up to 6 – 7 times their weight and quickly releases onto floor. While offering extremely high water pick up, rayon has relatively low water retention, making it less effective for general purpose. Launderable.
SYNTHETIC BLEND – Offers the best qualities of cotton, rayon, acrylic and polyester. A balanced blend of cotton and synthetic fibers delivers up to three times the absorbency of cotton mops. Blends combine high performance with long product life. Launderable
LOOPED-END vs CUT-END
LOOPED-END - Looped-end mop heads are constructed with a continuous strand, looped at the ends and stitched with a tail band to hold yarn strands together in a side-by-side uniform pattern. The looped ends reduce linting or shedding even under heavy laundering conditions. The tail band allows increased mopping efficiency by allowing maximum mop coverage on the floor's surface without gaps or missing spots saving time and money.
CUT-END - Cut-end mop heads are functional and affordable making them ideal as an economical, all-purpose mop or spill pick-up mop. Cotton cut-end mops often lint and shed and are not recommended as finish mops. Cut-end mops cover narrower area than a looped-end and can leave gaps. Cut-end mops are considered disposable items and should not be laundered.
COLOR
Allows user to organize cleaning equipment by assigning different colors for: different tasks, applications, rooms, buildings, etc.
DUST MOPS
Looped-end dust mops - Deliver high performance by trapping more dust and providing long product life. Looped-end yarns are designed to withstand demanding use and can be laundered without fraying, unraveling or linting.
Cut-end dust mops - Economical, cut-end dust mops are considered disposable and are designed for limited use as they fray, unravel and shed lint over long term. Not launderable.
Launderable vs. disposable - Launderable dust mops are constructed for durability and can be cleaned repeatedly for maximum longevity. If laundering facilities are not available in your operation, lower cost disposable dust mops might give better value.
